Introduction

In Immunology, the main focus lies on susceptibility to HIV infection (correlates of resistance to infection with emphasis on innate immunity NK cells) and on the immunology of co-infections (HIV and TB: TB-IRIS; HIV and other pathogens like Leishmania, schistosomiasis).

Research lines

  1. The immunological cause for resistance against HIV infection.
  2. Immunological monitoring of HIV infection and immune reconstitution.
  3. The immunopathogenesis of the immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) in HIV patients.
  4. Alternatives for immunological monitoring of HIV infection in development countries.
