Projects per year
I am a health system researcher with more than 12 years of expertise especially focused on global health issues including maternal, sexual, and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and TB. I completed my MPH at Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia) in 2009 and my PhD at the Nossal Institute for Global Health, University of Melbourne (Australia) in September 2020. My PhD investigated health system constraints to the promotion of respectful maternity care in Ethiopian hospitals and mitigation approaches using the complex adaptive systems theoretical framework.
I have worked in Ethiopian universities earlier as assistant lecturer and later as lecturer and assistant professor. During my PhD candidature and thereafter, I worked as teaching associate (Prioritising and Planning in Public Health; Global Health Security and Sustainability; Epidemiology; and Evidence-Based Practice) and research assistant at the University of Melbourne. I have experience and interest in the field of global health, particularly in implementation research aimed at ending preventable mortalities, especially in low-income settings. To date, I have served as a principal and co-principal investigator on several regional, national, and multicentre research projects whose outputs have been published in reputable journals. As part of my endeavour and accomplishments in global health, I was selected as a fellow of The Emerging Voices for Global Health; The Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders; The Maternal Health Young Champions; The Policy Communication Fellows; and The New Voices in Global Health.
