Research expertise

Jean Pierre Rutanga, is currently enrolled as a PhD student in the Unit of Diagnostic Bacteriology, Department of Biomedical Sciences of the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) in Antwerp, Belgium. In 2011, he earned his Master’s degree in Public Health from Anglia Ruskin University, UK and his subsequent Master’s degree in Molecular Biology from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium in 2015.  Since April 2016, he is working on his PhD research project entitled “Bacterial bloodstream infections in Rwanda: A molecular surveillance study”. This research project is conducted partly in Rwanda under the supervision of Dr. Claude Mambo Muvunyi at the University of Rwanda (UR), and partly in Belgium under the supervision of Prof. Stijn Deborggraeve at ITM and Prof. Jan Jacobs at ITM and KU Leuven.
