Research expertise

Jef Vanhamel (M.D. MSc. Ph.D.) is a research fellow in HIV and Sexual Health at the Department of Public health at ITM. His PhD focused on investigating challenges and opportunities for optimising the service delivery of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in the Belgian health system. In his research, he uses implementation science, epidemiology, and social science methods to study how to improve the delivery of integrated, comprehensive and person-centred HIV and sexual health services. This includes developing a better understanding of how communities as well as health professionals perceive and engage with these services, while contributing to develop and evaluate, together with different stakeholders, innovative and tailored strategies to improve service coverage, quality, access and equity.
