Research expertise

Jef Vanhamel (M.D., MSc.) is a medical doctor and public health researcher with a postgraduate degree in Tropical Medicine and International Health. He currently works as PhD researcher in the Sexual and Reproductive Health Research Group at the Insitute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, focusing on a multidisciplinary project that aims to inform the real-world implementation and scale-up of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) as an additional HIV prevention option in Belgium (www.promise-prep.be).

His areas of interest are mainly situated on the interface of medicine and social sciences, with particular attention for sexual and reproductive health, HIV prevention, organisation and delivery of health services, implementation science and the use of qualitative and mixed-methods in health services research.
