Marianne Pirard is General Practitioner by training and obtained an MPH degree. In 2002 she joined ITM as coordinator of the MPH - orientation Disease Control. Since 2012 she took up the position of education coordinator of the Department of Public Health.
At the Public Health Department she oversees the coordination of the international MPH with its three orientations (Health Systems Management, Disease Control and International Health), the postgraduate courses in Tropical Medicine & International health, short courses, PhD training, alumni networking and exchange with partners in an Alliance of Schools of Public Health. Her job implies course development & adjustment, quality assurance, participation in institutional education bodies and in international educational networks.
Before joining ITM she worked for 13 years in Zimbabwe and Bolivia and was involved in health care, health service organisation, disease control and implementation research; in particular on the surveillance of dengue, yellow fever and malaria, nosocomial infections and transfusion-transmitted diseases. Currently her main area of interest is the synergy between disease control programmes and general health systems and health systems strengtening.
