Research expertise
Wim Vanden Berghe is a clinical psychologist at the hiv reference center, Antwerp (ITM) and sociologist. He has been working as a researcher on minority health since 2004. Both at the sociology department of Ghent University and at the hiv and sexual health unit of the Institute of Tropical Medicine, he coordinated and was involved in several research projects focussing on epidemiology of health outcomes (incl hiv/sti), mental health and sexual behavior among LGB populations. He obtained a PhD in health sciences at Maastricht University in 2013. Between 2017 and 2023 he coordinated the Belgian STI surveillance at the Belgian institute for public health, Sciensano.
Apart from research, he has been and is involved in education at the department of sociology, Ghent University, ITM and VIVES University College.
