Project Details
Description
The overall objective of this project is to study the diagnostic and epidemiological application of assays for the detection of T. canis specific antigens and antibodies, in Cuba specifically. This can be divided in the following specific objectives:
1. To evaluate the use of a purified native fraction of low molecular weight proteins of Toxocara excretion-secretion antigens (TES-pur) for a specific detection of T. canis IgG and IgG4s.
2. To assess the use of IgG avidity to differentiate between recent and past toxocariasis.
3. To develop and validate a Nanobody (Nb)-based assay for circulating antigen detection in toxocariasis.
4. To test the performance of the above mentioned assays as epidemiological research tools for an improved understanding of the distribution and dynamics of toxocariasis in Cuba.
5. To test the performance of these assays as diagnostic tools for improvement of serological confirmation of clinical HT-cases at IPK.
