Elimination of Human African Trypanosomiasis in five provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The project intends to develop further the results obtained by grants OPP1155293 and OPP1174221, both coordinated by ITM. It takes into account lessons learned, intends to further strengthen the collaboration with the other gHAT interventions supported by BMGF and to integrate the results and tools of other foundation investments relevant to sleeping sickness. A division of labor has been developed between the grants supported by BMGF and those supported by the Belgian Government to ensure that the entire territory at risk for gHAT in DRC is covered, and to improve coherence and synergy. The yearly budget requested to support control activities in DRC is slightly lower than in the previous grant. Moreover, efforts will be made throughout the implementation to conduct activities in a more rational way. This rationalization process will have an impact both on management and on strategy level.
