Exploring Social Determinants of Type-2 Diabetes in Cambodia

Project Details

Description

Type-2 diabetes (T2D) is a life-long health condition that can have numerous complicaBons. T2D is more prevalent, and treatment outcomes are less satisfactory among individuals who live in less privileged conditions, such as people from poor households, limited health access areas, and low education, part of the so-called “social determinants of health (SDH).” This study aims to examine the social determinants of T2D in Cambodia through four specific objecBves: (1) to conduct a systematic review of lifestyle and socio-demographic determinants of T2D in Southeast Asia, (2) to determine the prevalence and determinants of T2D in Cambodia, (3) to use mathematical modeling to predict trends of individuals with T2D in the country by modifying identified top three determinants, and (4) to use economics modeling to estimate the cost of prevention and treatment at public healthcare facilities. Various methods will be employed to achieve these objectives, including a systematic review of both quantitative and qualitative scientific articles; quantitative analysis of secondary data including descriptive, bivariate, and generalized linear model’s binomial method and Markov statistical modeling framework; and qualitative analysis. This study will significantly contribute to the process of evaluating SDH in Cambodia, provide valuable insights into the country's fair allocation of resources towards T2D care, and support the country's government develop an ideal model for preventing and treating people with T2D.
