Is the dominant RR clone in Rwanda (R3 clone) also found in Burundi ?

Project Details

Description

Transmission of a major rifampicin-resistant (RR) Mycobacterium tuberculosis clone (R3clone) drives the RR-TB epidemic in Rwanda, since 1987. It is expected that this R3clone has also spread regionally beyond the Rwandese borders.
In this project we aim to screen stored M. tuberculosis complex from Burundi for the presence of R3clone by an in-house developed qPCR.

Research hypothesis: The majority of RR-TB in Burundi is driven by (transmission of) the R3 clone.
Specific objective: To screen stored M. tuberculosis complex from Burundi for the presence of R3clone
