Simplified rapid molecular diagnosis and characterisation of Leishmaniasis and Human African Trypanosomiasis

To generate new knowledge and technologies for improved diagnosis and control of human African trypanosomiasis and leishmaniasis.

Specific

To develop and validate low-tech molecular tests for laboratory diagnosis and (sub-)species differentiation.To develop and validate a sensitive point-of-care test for differential molecular diagnosis based on ribosomal RNA (rRNA) detection.To strengthen research capacity of African investigators and research institutes on the biology and diagnosis of both diseases.
