Abstract

A preliminary report on eleven cases of canine leishmaniosis treated with allopurinol is given. Daily treatment with 15 mg allopurinol/kg during approximately 2 months resulted in clinical cure. Dogs remained without symptoms after therapy, although they never became serologically negative in the indirect immunofluorescent antibody test. With regard to clinical improvement treatment of canine leishmaniosis with allopurinol appears to be useful.
